A Face That Launched a Thousand Ships

Face Quote of the Day: “Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty.” – Coco Chanel

It’s A Wonderful Big Fat Greek Withdrawal: That’s about the best title I can come up with for the bank run that happened in Greece last week, as Greeks withdrew over $700 million euros on Monday alone. Greece’s banks have lost 72 billion euros in deposits since the start of 2010, and that number seems to be snowballing with every passing day. Why do I bring this up, you ask? Because all this overseas craziness is helping our interest rates. Some reports come out tomorrow that can sway rates in either direction (Employment, Durable Goods, and My Birthday) but so far all of the reports seem to be taking a back seat to events overseas.

Interest Rate Update: 30-year fixed rates remain in the high 3s with ARM rates about a point lower. Two reminders: First, it’s a glorious time to refinance and maybe even knock years off of your payment by getting fixed rates less than 30 years (25, 20, 15, and 10 are available). Second, please let your family, friends, pets, and coworkers know that for any loan over $240k I will waive all lender fees on purchases and refinances. This is a $1,295 savings, Mortgage Fans!

Face Quote of the Day 2: “You should’ve seen her face. It was the same exact look my father gave me when I told him I wanted to be a ventriloquist.” – George Costanza (Jason Alexander), Seinfeld,1993.

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed the lovely and talented Megan Fox as last week’s answer. Want to be entered into a drawing to win an air freshener shaped like Apu from The Simpsons? Simply email me the answer to this week’s “Who Am I?” question. Good luck: “I turn 54 today. You may not know that I am part owner of the minor league soccer team Seattle Sounders, or that I am the only non-wrestler to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. You may know that I think Cleveland rocks, or that I took the place of a guy who got in a fistfight with Adam Sandler.”
