Dollars, Pennies, and Traps – Oh My!
This really has nothing to do with mortgages but I always get a kick out of reading this plot synopsis for the Wizard of Oz. Okay, onto today’s blog…
Trap Quote of the Day: “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help make the big choices in life. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.” – Steve Jobs
Did’ja Know: Changing our $1 bills to $1 coins would save taxpayers $4.4-billion dollars over a 30 year span! And speaking of taxes you’ve got… 82 days left to file taxes. Here’s five tips for the tax season.
Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we’ve got the FHFA House Price Index (I don’t know what it is either so let’s not worry about it), tomorrow Weekly Jobless Claims (expected: 215k), and on Friday Durable Goods Orders (this report indicates the demand for big ticket items like cars, refrigerators, and the 20-pack of BBQ flavored Pringles I bought at Costco yesterday) and New Home Sales (expected: 550k). If these reports come in better than expected for the economy you will see interest rates trickle up, and vice-versa if the numbers disappoint.
Interest rates are still beautiful, Mortgage Fans! You’ll find a 30-year fixed jumbo rate (that’s for any loan over $484k) in the low-4s and for a conforming loan (anything under $484k) in the mid-to-upper 4s), you’ll also find adjustable rate mortgages anywhere from .25 – .50% lower. As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and how you spend your 100 ten-minute blocks every day.
Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me between now and March 31st I will eat the appraisal fee (a $450 savings)! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or anyone who owns a million-dollar penny that can use this gift.
Trap Quote of the Day 2: “My Mom’s house is like the one in Home Alone except all the booby traps are emotional.” – @lamEnidColeslaw
Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those of you who guessed Kate Moss last week. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Rain Cloud Watering Pot? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It was on this day back in 2007 that my song about an unfaithful man and female empowerment hit number # 1 on the Billboard charts. Here’s what else you need to know about me: I was born in September of 1981 and you probably don’t know my parents because they aren’t famous, but just know I am definitely somebody’s child in more ways than one! I had twins recently which at times leaves me exhausted but if you tell me to catch some z’s I wouldn’t know if you were referring to sleep or my significant other.”
