Donations, Stable Rates, & Movie Mistakes

Before I start this week’s blog I just want to send a personal message to my wife: Our marriage is now temporarily on hold now that the NFL season is back. (*side note: I don’t want any backlash for this from anyone. Football season is six months long while The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is year round).

Donation Quote of the Day: “Value of life depends not on your possessions, but on your donation.” – Debasish Mridha

This Week in Economic History: It was on September 8th, 2003 the Recording Industry Association of America filed lawsuits against 251 people across the country accusing them of illegally sharing copyrighted music online. The group alleged millions of dollars in losses due to the online sharing of music files. (*side note: I spent many sleepless nights after this thinking – ironically – that the 50 Cent song I downloaded would lead be to bankruptcy.)

Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. This week it’s all about jobs as Thursday will have the ADP Employment Report and Jobless Claims Report, and then on Friday the biggie Employment Numbers for August (expected: 195k new jobs, unemployment down to 3.8%). If these reports show the economy growing you can expect rates to tick up, and vice-versa if the numbers come in weak.

Interest rates have been holding steady with 30-year fixed rates in the mid-to-upper 4s, and adjustable rate mortgages about .25% less. As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you like spotting mistakes in movies.

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan between now and the end of October I will waive $500 of lender fees. Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or ghosts caught on tape that can use this gift.

Donation Quote of the Day 2: “Whatever you do, always give 100%. Unless you’re donating blood.” – @_ConorLynn

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Richard Gere. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Cereal Killer T-shirt?  Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “I want everyone to celebrate my birthday. Am I royalty? Mmm.. sort of. An athlete? No, but athletes love to hear me sing. Am I in heaven? Well… if you look up to the skies you’ll see I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy. Am I a movie star? No, but in 1992 a couple SNL stars played one of my band’s biggest hits during their drive.”
