Haunted Houses, Scary Rates, and Ghost Dogs!
Halloween Quote of the Day: “Nothing on Earth is so beautiful as the final haul on Halloween night.” – Steve Almond
Did’ja Know: The origin of piggy banks started with the old English word ‘pygg’ which was a type of clay that was used for making jars and dishes that held money. Over generations that word eventually morphed into ‘piggy bank’. And here’s some fun piggy banks for ya.
Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. This is a week that can determine rates for a long time. First, it’s the end of the month which means we have three reports about employment coming out including Friday’s biggie the October Jobs Report which is predicting 80k-95k new jobs created in October. That is setting the bar really low, much like in high school when my college counselor said to me, “Can you just try and get a C in Spanish? Nothing higher, all we need is a C.” Aside from that today we’ve got Fed Chair Jerome Powell who will announce a .25% cut which can help or hurt mortgage rates. Huh, how can it hurt? Glad you asked. If the Fed cuts the rate and then says, “We’re done for a long time, the economy is doing great,” then you’ll see rates actually go up. However, if the Fed says something like they anticipate more cuts in the near future that would help mortgage rates go down.
Interest rates continue their three-week climb and now you’ll find 30yr fixed rates in the high-3s/low-4s, with adjustable rate mortgages only a sliver less. As usual rates will vary based on credit score, type of home, equity in the home, and if your home is haunted.
Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me between now and December 31st I will waive $500 in closing costs! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or ghost dogs.
Halloween Quote of the Day 2: “Teach your kids about taxes and social security by taking 30% of their Halloween candy and promising to give part of it back in 70 years.” – Israel_mcghee@izzy4369
Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who last week guessed Ryan Reynolds. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Weightlifter Toothpick Dispenser? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It was on this date in 2011 that my movie premiered at the Rome Film Festival. An anagram for my character name in that movie is Bean Walls, but regardless of my character name I’m no ugly duckling. And my real name? It’s a girl’s first name and boy’s last name which is perfect for me because in 2017 I came out as bisexual. Maybe you remember me from my earlier movies like the 2002 flick where I was trapped in a house with my mom (*you’ll remember her as the one who in real life had an unusual connection to Ronald Reagan) or my 2009 comedy drama that starred Jesse Eisenberg and last week’s trivia answer.”
