Hidden Treasures, Lego Man, and Rates
First Quote of the Day: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
This Week in Economic History: It was on this day in 1975 that the company Microsoft was founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico by Bill Gates & Paul Allen. (*I always thought Microsoft would’ve been a great name for little marshmallows). And on April 5th, 1987 Fox television debuted its first prime-time sitcoms – Married…With Children and the Tracey Ullman Show.
Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. This week it’s all about jobs as we’ve got the ADP Employment Report today, tomorrow Jobless Claims, and Friday’s biggie the Employment Numbers for March. If these numbers come in good for the economy the rates will most likely go up, and vice-versa if the numbers disappoint.
You’ll find interest rates a little lower than they were last week. A 30-year fixed is in the low-to-mid 4s with adjustable rate mortgages about a half a point lower. As usual, rates will vary based on credit score, type of home, equity in the home, and if you home contains old things worth a fortune.
Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan between now and May 31st will receive a $500 credit towards closing costs. Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass this email onto any friends, family, coworkers, or people who have found a message in a bottle that can use this gift.
First Quote of the Day 2: “I once went to a diner and ordered a chicken salad sandwich and an egg salad sandwich to see which one would come first.” – @IGotsSmarts
Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who last week guessed Lady Gaga. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a LEGO Man Ice Cube Tray? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It’s my birthday today and it’s amazing I’m still alive. I started smoking weed with my dad when I was six, and from 1996-2001 I was arrested and jailed multiple times for drug use. Sometimes I joke that the low point of my life is when Rolling Stone Magazine ranked me the worst Saturday Night Live cast member of all-time. During that timeframe, I was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder but let the record show I am not low on iron. Now let’s talk about the good stuff: my films have totaled over $4 billion in domestic box office grosses which makes me the fifth highest-grossing box-office star of all-time which I’m really proud of, my friends think it’s super.”
