Winning Quote of the Day: “Winning isn’t always finishing first. Sometimes winning is just finishing.” – Manual Diotte (motivational speaker)
Wuss’up This Week: It’s a pretty quiet week for any rate-swaying economic news. Today and tomorrow there are auctions for 10-yr treasury notes and 30-yr treasury bonds (fun stuff!). A strong demand for these will lead to lower rates. On Friday the Retail Sales report comes out; this is a measure of consumer demand. A stronger-than-expected number will lead to rates going up, so to help you guys out I’ll go to Target today and return the socks my wife bought me. This will ensure that this report comes in weak. No need to thank me…it’s what I do.
Interest Rate Update: Last week I wrote that in some cases rates in the high 3s for 30-yr fixed were available. Well, that was fun for about two hours…and then rates got beat up worse than Rocky in his first fight with Mr. T. But we all know how that movie ended, right? So I’m hoping they will come back down. In the meantime, rates are still beautiful with 30-yr fixed rates in the low 4s and ARM rates a point lower. Don’t forget: for any loan over $220k I will waive all lender fees – a savings of $1,295. You could buy a lot of socks at Target with that kind of money…
Winning Quote of the Day 2: “Whatever they were doing, Dad was winning.” – Luke (Nolan Gould), after seeing his parents having sex, Modern Family
Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed John Cougar Mellencamp as last week’s answer. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Connect Four game? (yeah, I know – this game is only fun for about 30 seconds…that’s why I’m giving it away). Simply email me the answer to this week’s “Who Am I?” question. Good luck: Yesterday I turned 45. Many would joke that playing Krusty’s half-brother on The Simpsons was the highlight of my career. Well, TV is where I found fame and probably where my fame will stay because my movies usually last in theaters for about eight seconds before getting slapped onto a DVD. I was born and raised in Ohio and like to go home when I’m not working. Yeah, there’s nothing like the Midwest, which is probably why when I went to high school in California I was attracted to my TV girlfriend, who was also from the Midwest.”
