New Home Sales are UP!

BarrysBlog_FBNew Home Sales are UP!
On Monday it was announced that new home sales rose by the largest amount in more than eight years last month. The last time sales rose so dramatically was in December of 2000. This is a great sign that the bottom is behind us. Also, in December of 2000 I weighed ten pounds less than I do now, so if you are a believer in signs – then gear up for 2018 – a year you’ll be crazy busy, and I’ll be switching from khakis to sweat pants. For more interesting facts read on.

Inspirational Quote 1
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

Interest Rates
Just a reminder that rates will be slightly better on condos where the borrower is putting 25% down (or more). Rates also can vary based on credit scores and down payment. As of today, a 30yr fixed rate remains in the low 5s, and a 5yr ARM in the low 4s.

Inspirational Quote 2
“Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of Everybody Loves Raymond, only it doesn’t last 22 minutes. It lasts forever.” – Pete (Paul Rudd), Knocked Up (2007).

TGIF
On Friday the Q2 Employment Cost Index report comes out -the most important report of the month. It measures growth of wages, salaries, and benefits costs over a certain period of time. This data is the best indicator of employment price pressures, so it could affect interest rates strongly in either direction. (man, getting older really sucks. I remember when all I cared about was who Heather Locklear would mess up on Melrose Place . Now I’m paying attention to cost index reports!)

Trivia
Congratulations to those of you last week who guessed Danny Glover. Okay, want to win a $5.00 Starbucks gift card this week? Be one of the first ten to email me the correct answer to the Who Am I? question. Good luck. “I turn 35 tomorrow. My childhood was spent living in a trailer park in Washington . While in high school I was ranked 5th in the state in gymnastics, and also set records for swimming. I guess it was my athleticism that led me to my first big role about a girl that was good at karate. After winning my second Oscar I said, “I don’t know what I did in this life to deserve this. I’m just a girl from a trailer park who had a dream.” What I should’ve said was, “I’m not going to forget to thank my husband.”
