Change Quote of the Day:“Change your thoughts and you change your world.” – Norman Vincent Peale
What’s that? You want 20 great cover songs remade even better? Here you go (except, uh, #18 was not the best).
What do my haircut and today’s interest rates have in common? This is the worst they have looked in a long, long time. In fact, rates are at a two-month high now and some in this industry feel the climb has just begun. And why not? The housing market has drastically improved, employment seems to be under control, the sun is shining, and the Cubs are only in second-to-last place instead of last place. All signs that the economy has improved – which is a rate killer.
Wuss’up This Week: Today’s Fed Minutes Reports is about the only report coming out this week that can shake interest rates in either direction. For the last two years the Fed has been buying bonds, which has kept interest rates artificially low. This is coming to an end; we just don’t know if it will be this summer, this fall, or this winter. The later the better for rates – and I’m sure in these minutes the Fed will drop hints as to when their spending spree will end.
Despite the shift upwards interest rates are still beautifully low, Mortgage Fans. A 30-year fixed remains in the mid-to-high 3s with ARM rates about a point lower. Don’t forget that rates vary depending on type of home, equity in the home, credit score, and if you are gluten-free.
And as always let your coworkers, friends, and family know that for any purchase or refinance loan over $240k I will waive all lender fees – a $1,295 savings! I am the only one in the industry doing this. I don’t know if that makes me smart or dumb but it’s a good time to take advantage of it.
Some excellent superhero texts…
Change Quote of the Day 2:“I can’t believe Whoopi Goldberg hasn’t legally changed her last name to ‘Cushion.’ I mean, why even be a celebrity??” – Moris (@moris23)
Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Tina Fey last week. Want to be entered into a drawing to win superhero shot glasses (with capes!)? Simply email me the answer to this week’s “Who Am I?” question. Good luck: “It was on this date in 1990 that my song hit #1 on the US Top 100 Chart. This was my only #1 song in my career and it wasn’t even written by me! The guy that wrote it, Prince, has a lot more hair than I do. In 1992 Madonna ripped up a picture of Joey Buttafuoco and said on TV – to me – “Fight the real enemy.” What can I say, she’s always been jealous of me. People say my 1992 version of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” was better than her 1996 version.”
