Points to Ponder

Thinking Quote of the Day: “I think of life as a good book. The further you get into it, the more it begins to make sense.”- Harold Kushner (author, rabbi)

Wuss’Up This Week: Plenty! Lots of economic reports will be released that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we have the Durable Goods Orders Report (these are big ticket items that last more than 5 years, such as cars, refrigerators, the jug of ketchup I bought at Costco), which is expected to be down 0.2% from last month. A bigger drop would lead to lower rates. Tomorrow we have Weekly Jobless Claims (expected claims – 401k). Higher claims may lead to lower rates.

Interest Rate Update: Rates continue to be beautiful, Mortgage Fans. 30-yr fixed remains in the mid to upper 3s with ARM rates about a point lower. You want good karma? Let everyone know that for purchase or refinance loans over $240k I will waive all lender fees (A $1,295 savings!). Also – a reminder: rates vary based on type of home, equity in the home, credit scores, and if you believe The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band has the greatest album cover of all time.

Thinking Quote of the Day 2: “I think I’m doing okay for a 15-year old with a wife and baby.” – Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly), Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, 2007.

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed John Goodman last week. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a 32 oz bottle of Sprite? Simply email me the answer to this week’s “Who Am I?” question. Good luck: “Tomorrow I turn 46. My close friend (no, he’s not my agent) has appeared in many movies with me – you’ll remember him having a bit part in a movie where one of my scenes was dominated by a Peter Gabriel song). I’m a big star who has led a clean life with no controversy – hard to do in this industry. So, no – I would never want to build a time machine in real life to change my past.”

Barry’s Blog will be off on July 4th – have a great holiday everyone. And remember, fireworks are dangerous! They should only be purchased from a professional.
