Ticker Tape, Big Bird, and Rates Still High
Before we get the blog started I just wanted to give a huge thank you to our veterans and active military personnel! For the holiday season here’s a link for all the sales, savings, and freebies from stores wanting to show their appreciation. Mortgage Fans, please pass this link onto anyone you know who can use it.
Generation Quote of the Day: “We are probably the first generation that will have our user names on the headstone.” – @strobegold
Big Bird retiring? It’s a good thing, wouldn’t want someone to mistake him for a big turkey prior to Thanksgiving.
This Week in Economic History: It was on November 15th, 1876 that the stock ticker was unveiled. The ticker sent a continuous stream of information to traders concerning stocks. Wait… what’s that, Mortgage Fans? You want to know seven facts about ticker-tape parades? Okay, here ya go!
Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we’ve got the Consumer Price Index (expected: up 0.2%) – this report measures inflation at the consumer level. Tomorrow we’ve got Retail Sales (expected: up 0.5%), Weekly Jobless Claims (expected: 214k), and on Friday the Capacity Utilization Report (expected: 78.1%) – this report also measures inflation. (a figure above 85% is viewed as inflationary). In today’s Pants Report my stomach is reporting a quarter inch less room to move from last week at this time – this was unexpected inflation due to the half a can of Pringles I ate last night.
Interest rates remain in the low-5s for a 30-year fixed loan, with adjustable rate mortgages about .25-.50% lower. As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you’re interested in the origin of common phrases.
Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me between now and December 31st I will waive $500 in lender fees. Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or people that like to listen to radio stations all over the world that can use this gift!
Generation Quote of the Day 2: “My generation is not strong. My grandfather fought in World War II. I had a panic attack during the season finale of Breaking Bad.” – Matt Donaher
Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Robin Williams. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Lucky Charms T-shirt. Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “In two days I’ll be celebrating my birthday. You might remember me from my successful family sitcom that I was on for seven years. A lot of people ask me if my father on the show ever touched me inappropriately, and I tell them no but I could feel a ‘sinister, shadow energy’ from him. You know who did touch me? The man I had three kids with. He once asked me If I was gonna go his way, and the answer was no because I divorced him in ’93. Seven years later I starred in a movie that the author of this blog considers one of his all-time favorite comedies that was filmed mostly in Chicago, starred an actor from Chicago, and used music almost as a character throughout the movie.”
I’m giving the blog a holiday next week since it will be the day before Thanksgiving (which is a hard holiday not torank # 1. Does it get any better than friends, family, football, and food?). Anyway, here’s some interesting Thanksgiving trivia for you.
