We Stand On Guard for Thee

Canada Quote of the Day: “I’ve been to Canada, and I’ve always gotten the impression that I could take the country over in about two days.” – Jon Stewart

Round and round The Fed goes, and when they stop buying mortgage-backed securities nobody knows. Well, some people think they know, in particular a few people in the Fed who say it will be at the end of October. When this does happen rates will continue trending up – probably into the 5s?

Wuss’up This Week: Three biggies released this week that can sway interest rates in either direction – today’s New Home Sales (expected – 390k), tomorrow’s Employment Report (expected -335k) and Friday’s release of Metallica: Through the Never in 3D which is rated R for violent content and uh, language (expected – big hair).

A lot of readers of this blog say to me, “You always inform us about interest rates, but you never ever show us Bill Murray artwork.” Okay – please stop asking! Here you go.

Interest rates give or take are at 4.50% for a 30-yr fixed with ARM rates a point lower. Don’t forget to remember that for any purchase or refinance loan over $240k I will waive all lender fees – a $1,295 savings! Please tell your friends, family, coworkers, and that annoying neighbor who won’t stop talking about how great his college football team is. (For the record I will never brag about my school’s team. I went to the U of Kansas and still not sure we have a team).

What’s that? You want to waste more time? Okay!

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Jimmy Fallon last week. Want to be entered into a drawing to win breakfast-flavored dental floss? Simply email me the answer to this week’s “Who Am I?” question. Good luck: “It was this week in 1997 that I hosted Saturday Night Live – a good gig but I prefer making movies (and many, many sequels to those movies). I must be pretty special because I’ve got my own statue and my robe is in the Smithsonian (no, I’m not Hugh Hefner, but in the mid-80s I did marry a Danish super model who made the cover of the December 1987 issue ofPlayboy).”
